Vision
One of the reasons for my pursuing the Ph.D. in religious education with a concentration in discipleship and Christian formation is that I believe God is calling me to be a resource person for the church in this area. It is unfortunately a much neglected aspect of our ministry in the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
We are good at winning converts and baptizing them, but unfortunately we are dropping the ball when it comes to discipling them. And may be it is because we have baptized members and then tried to turn members into disciples. I believe that we should begin with the end in my mind. If we want to make disciples as the gospel commission encourages us to do, we must see the process of making disciples differently.
It is time for us to look at human development as the model for making disciples instead of baseball diamonds and the like. I hope to be part of this new paradigm. And may be if it is the Lord's will, this will be a transformation that I can help to lead.
